Akron, Ohio, June 7, 2024  — Beginning tonight at 11pm, the City of Akron will limit parking behind the Chipotle in Highland Square (825 W. Market). The city will close off the area directly behind the buildings as seen in the map below at 11pm on weekend evenings for the foreseeable future. It will be reopened in the mornings. The move is meant to cut down on concerning activity including drinking and loud noise which has been occurring behind the building on weekends.

“We want to allow the businesses in this area to operate and serve customers and also respect the neighbors in Highland Square,” said Service Director Chris Ludle. “We’ve taken this step in the past and had success at cutting down noise complaints, broken bottles, and illegal partying in the parking lot.”

“I’ve received numerous calls from Ward 1 residents about illegal activity happening in this location after hours,” said Ward 1 Councilman Sam DeShazior. “I’ve had several conversations with Service Director Ludle, Mayor Malik, and our Akron Police Department leadership about ways to mitigate this activity and we’ve collectively agreed that this solution will help in the short term. We continue to discuss longer-term solutions.”
